About Emphysema
Emphysema is a progressive condition caused by the lungs becoming stretched and
losing their elasticity, thereby interfering with breathing. The increased
effort required by the heart causes it to overwork, and the circulatory system
is affected as the disease progresses. Emphysema is related to heavy cigarette
smoking, air pollution, and chronic bronchitis.
