Wound Management

Non-healing wounds affect a significant number of people in the United States. They are responsible for considerable pain, suffering and loss of function. Furthermore, without proper treatment, wounds can become infected and threaten loss of limb or life.

Warning Signs & Symptoms

Do you have a Chronic Wound?
- A wound that has not improved after one month
- A leg or foot ulcer resulting from poor circulation
- a non-healing incision or injury
- a sore caused by sustained pressure

Treatment

It is widely accepted that a warm, moist wound environment encourages healing and prevents tissue dehydration and cell death. These conditions also allow the interaction of the cells and growth factors involved in healing.

In addition, it is generally felt that dressings should:

- provide mechanical protection
- protect against secondary protection
- be non-adherent and easily removed without trauma
- leave no foreign particles in the wound
- offer effective pain relief
